ESports are multiplayer competitive video games. They’re very popular among youth. ESports can help teens build soft skills like communication, team work, and self-confidence. These skills are essential for future careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

ESports help youth to:

  1. Compete in a safe, friendly manner. ESports are an outlet for teens to let loose and have fun with each other.

  2. Practice problem-solving. ESports let teens try different ways to achieve a goal under pressure.

  3. Learn teamwork. ESports tournaments encourage players to cheer on their teammates and work together.

eSports field trips for summer campers

This summer more than a dozen Parks & Rec summer camps will learn and explore the world of esports. Parks & Rec will offer summer camp field trips to Localhost. That’s the international headquarters of Nerd Street Gamers. It is often referred to as “The Block.” Localhost offers a 20,000+ sq.ft. public eSports lab. The lab has over 100 state-of-the-art, high-end gaming PCs and the latest gaming consoles. These trips will expose campers to:

  • Game team building.
  • Individual skill practice.
  • Free play on a variety of popular gaming platforms.
Trips start July, 2023. Many Parks & Rec camps still have space. Find a summer day camp near you and enroll your child in a summer of play!

eGaming camp

PPR and Nerd Street Gamers are also offering a 1-week eGaming camp. The camp will take place at Nerd Street from August 14 to 18, 2023. 20 campers ages 6 to 12 will have access to on-site gaming systems.

Enrollment is now open for this camp. To apply, contact your local recreation center. Use Parks & Rec’s Finder tool to locate a center near you.
