Managing members of a Bucks County wedding and event venue called The Barn at Forestville must pay $11,750 in civil penalties and costs for booking events without the proper required zoning, resulting in the cancellation of numerous weddings and parties.
The managing members are Lawrence Plummer Jr. and Karen Plummer, a recent release from Attorney General Josh Shapiro’s office said. The Barn, located in Furlong, Pa, offered events without the right zoning permit. They then falsely advertised to customers that they could legally hold events. The court ruled that the Plummers could not do so, and they had to cancel events abruptly. Now the customers may be eligible for compensation as well.
“The Plummers disregarded the well-being of people preparing for one of the most special days of their lives,” Shapiro said in the release. “They vowed to deliver, but operated their business, in violation of the law, and took advantage of couples who were acting in good faith. My office will remain diligent in ensuring companies like The Barn in Pennsylvania do not shed their responsibility to treat customers right and to operate lawfully.”
The settlement requires the Plummers to pay $11,750 to the Office of Attorney General for civil penalties and costs. They also cannot hold or advertise events at the venue. Those who paid for events that were cancelled can file a complain by Jan. 17, 2023, with documentation that supports the complaint that the Plummers accepted payment and have not refunded them for a cancelled event.
