Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf has had it with gun violence around the country.
Following a recent incident in Philadelphia in which four students were shot the day before Thanksgiving, the governor released a statement expressing his concern that more legislative work is needed to curb the issue.
“I’m so tired of the lack of action, the innocent lives lost and Pennsylvanians hurt because we can’t come together to pass more commonsense gun laws,” he said in the Nov. 23 statement. “Enough is enough. Today, four young Pennsylvanians were shot the day before Thanksgiving. We live in a country where we can’t walk home from school, go to the grocery store, or gather in sanctuary with our community without bloodshed. I’ll say it again: enough is enough.”
The students were reportedly leaving school on early release before Thanksgiving, a report from ABC 6 in Philadelphia said. The gunshots came from a vehicle that shot at a group of people near the intersection of 60th and Oxford Streets at 11:30 a.m. Two 15-year-old female students were shot along with two 16-year-old males. The victims were hospitalized and listed as stable.
While Wolf noted that work by President Joe Biden is the right direction, he criticized the work of the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
“President Joe Biden’s Safer Communities Act is a start, but we need more,” Wolf said. “It’s been too little for too long. Pennsylvania’s General Assembly needs to act now. The recent shootings across our country leave families with holes in their hearts and empty seats at the Thanksgiving dinner table. And I’ve had enough.”
