Last week, Gov. Tom Wolf announced that $3 million in funding has been approved for East Whiteland Township involving improvements to infrastructure on Route 30 in Chester County.

According to a release by Wolf’s office on October 27, the transportation improvement project will create 141 direct jobs and another 55 indirect jobs in Chester County. The funding is through the Transportation Infrastructure Investment Funds (TIIF) for costs associated with design and construction. The TIIF program is a collaborative effort between PennDOT and the Department of Community and Economic Development.

“These much-needed improvements will boost the local economy by allowing easier access to local businesses,” Wolf said. “This is the kind of investment that will help businesses in the area continue to grow and thrive.”

This project’s focus is for access to neighborhoods, as well as the Chester Valley Trail, Immaculate University and other employers in the area. There will be two lanes going both directions, as well as a center turn lane, intersection improvements, bike lanes, new sidewalks and bus stops.

Rep. Chrissy Houlahan thanked Wolf and supporters in Chester County for supporting the project, saying that it will not only be beneficial for people traveling the roads, but is vital for helping businesses and the state’s economy as a whole.

“Our 21st century economy is global, but our local PA-06 economy still depends on structurally sound roads and bridges,” Houlahan said. “As an entrepreneur and as an engineer specializing in supply chain management, I know how important it is to our small business community to prioritize roadway projects such as the Route 30 expansion. These long overdue improvements will prioritize the safety of commuters, delivery trucks, and cyclists and increase the speed of access to area businesses. I’m thankful for Governor Wolf and our Chester County partners for their support of this project.”
