The Philadelphia Union soccer club of Major League Soccer has announced that it is partnering with Green Mountain Energy (GME), which will supply power to Subaru Park stadium, the club's practice facility and Union Power Plant.
The partnership is is a multi-year agreement between the soccer team and GME, which is the longest-serving renewable energy company in the country, a recent press release issued by the Union said. The goal is for the two organizations to work to find the best way to enhance energy sustainability at Subaru Park. This is the first professional soccer sponsorship for the energy company, which will also host activations on the plaza and parking lots on game days, along with youth tournaments during the year.
"We are excited to welcome Green Mountain Energy to the Philadelphia Union family," Charlie Slonaker, Philadelphia Union chief revenue officer, said in the release. "Our partnership with GME further solidifies our commitment to sustainability and to making our area a better place for our fans and community."
Green Mountain Energy has been in business since 1997, the release said. Its mission is to change how power is made through offering consumers and businesses a choice of clean electricity through renewable resources. It also offers carbon-offset products and sustainable solutions intended for businesses. The company operates with a zero-carbon footprint and only offers products that have an environmental benefit. GME customers have helped prevent approximately 100 billion pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, which equates to planting more than 11 million trees.
"We believe in solutions that not only benefit the planet but also benefit the people in our local communities." GME Vice President and General Manager Mark Parsons said in the release. "We are grateful for the opportunity to join forces with the Philadelphia Union to advance sustainability."
