Lisa Marie Deeley, who is charged with running the City of Philadelphia elections, gave up her notary license in 2018.

Deeley surrendered her license after she did not check the identification of a woman pretending to be the wife of her friend Charles J. Costello.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Deeley notarized documentation that resulted in Costello’s actual wife, whom he was divorcing at the time, losing her rights to his death benefits.

Deeley had been a licensed notary for 24 years prior to giving up her license,

Despite the mishap Deeley was re-elected as City Commissioner at Philadelphia County Board of Election for which she is paid $140,000 per year.

Deeley has deep ties to the Democratic Party in Philadelphia. She is the daughter of former Sheriff Barabara Deeley. Notably, Sheriff Deeley took an immunity deal for her cooperation against her predecessor in an immunity trial after her offices were raided by the FBI.

A former city employee called the commissioners, purportedly including Deeley, “corrupt.”

‘[W]hen I got into office, I saw a lot of what goes on,” Stephanie Singer, a former city commissioner, said. “That office is so corrupt and political, which is a form of disenfranchisement too.”

The Trump campaign has filed suit in Pennsylvania seeking to challenge the election result.
