Cost of college went up for all students at the University of Pennsylvania

Tuition and fees rose 3.8 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Pennsylvania, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Pennsylvania students paid $55,584 to attend the four-year private not-for-profit institution this year – $2,050 more than the $53,534 charged for 2017-18.

Data shows 58 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,135 students received grants or scholarships totaling $52.6 million and 312 students took out student loans totaling more than $2.4 million.

Including all undergraduates (25,860), 6,150 students used grants or scholarships totaling $248.6 million, and 1,610 students took out $11.6 million in federal student loans.
