Alec Bohm faced boos at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday amid a rough start to the Phillies' season. Despite grounding into a key double play in the fourth inning, Bohm capitalized on another chance in the sixth. Batting against Giants' Justin Verlander, he hit a single that drove in Nick Castellanos, helping the Phillies secure a 6-4 win. Reflecting on his earlier at-bat, Bohm noted, “You can either let that go one way and ruin the rest of the day, or just keep playing the game.”
Bohm's season began with aspirations of rebounding from a disappointing second half in 2024, which included trade talks during the offseason. The Phillies' lineup has seen adjustments, with Bohm moving from the No. 3 or No. 4 slot to hitting seventh and eighth recently. His friend Brandon Marsh has also faced difficulties. Marsh started the season as a center fielder but was benched after struggling and remained hitless in April.
Both players contributed to the win, with Marsh hitting a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Despite early struggles, Marsh expressed optimism, saying, “We’re scuffling a bit, Bohmer and I. But we’ll be just fine.”
Bryce Harper, who contributed with a two-run homer, offered Bohm advice: “I just want [Bohm] to enjoy the game… We get to play this beautiful game every day.” Harper emphasized understanding the pressures young players face and urged them to savor the moments on the field.
Bohm is contemplating the lesson in his slump, hoping to become a "different player," focusing less on results and more on process, saying, “I’ve worked, I’ve prepared, I’ve done everything I can do.”
