The University of Pennsylvania baseball team secured a decisive victory over Lehigh with a 19-2 win in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The game concluded after seven innings due to the 10-run rule. This result improves Penn's record to 5-9 as they prepare for Ivy League competition, while Lehigh drops to 10-7.
Penn's performance was highlighted by an impressive offensive display, scoring 16 unanswered runs from the fourth inning onward. Notably, Nick Spaventa and Michael Powell each contributed four hits. "Spaventa scored three runs and drove in two," and "Powell scored four runs and had two RBIs on three doubles." Davis Baker also played a key role with four RBIs.
The Quakers extended their winning streak against Lehigh to eight games, maintaining a historical advantage with an all-time record of 87-32-4 against the Mountain Hawks. This victory marked the most runs Penn has scored against Lehigh since their 18-0 win in 1912.
Aidan von Zuben earned his first career start win, striking out three batters across two innings while allowing just one run on one hit. After Andrew Miehe allowed one run in relief, Marshall Mott and Tommy Delany each struck out a batter before Thomas Shurtleff closed the game.
Looking ahead, Penn will begin Ivy League play this weekend at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium against Harvard. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m., available for streaming on ESPN+.
