The University of Pennsylvania baseball team is set to play a series of three games against Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, this weekend. The games are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, with the first game on Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon. Originally, a single game was planned for Sunday but was moved to Friday due to expected bad weather.
Penn has an all-time record of 74-52-1 against Lafayette since their first meeting in 1882. The Quakers have been successful in recent encounters, winning seven of the last ten matchups and taking two out of three games last year. Their last encounter on March 17, 2024, ended with Penn defeating Lafayette 22-8.
Earlier this week, Penn played Rutgers in a close midweek game that went into extra innings. Rutgers won 3-2 after scoring the decisive run in the top of the 11th inning. Penn's defense has struggled this season, committing errors in nine out of ten games.
Offensively, Gavin Collins leads Penn with a .310 batting average and is tied for RBIs with Jarrett Pokrovsky at six each. Ryan Taylor leads the Ivy League in walks per game while sharing doubles per game leadership with Connor Chavez and Pokrovsky.
On the mound, Sebastian Haggard has shown promise with a strong start to his collegiate career. He leads the Ivy League in strikeouts per nine innings and ranks nationally as well.
Lafayette enters the series with a challenging start to their season at 2-13 overall. They have allowed numerous runs recently but have standout performances from Easton Brenner offensively and Mike Romano pitching.
Saturday's doubleheader will be available for streaming on ESPN+, while live stats will be provided for all games.
