Just over a month ago, Jovan Lukic traveled from Serbia to Philadelphia to join Major League Soccer. Since his arrival, he has made his debut for the Union, started in three matches, and recently scored his first goal in the team's 2-0 victory against New England Revolution.

Lukic signed with the Union on February 5th and has quickly adapted to life in Philadelphia, feeling at home despite being nearly 5000 miles away from Serbia. “I'm happy. This is a dream for me,” Lukic expressed after the match.

He continued, “I came to this club, and I'm so happy with the people inside. This is all for them and because of them. That’s all I want to say because I fell in love. I’ve only been here for a month and I fell in love already with the fans, with the staff, with the players.”

The positive start for the 23-year-old midfielder was anticipated by Carnell, who spoke highly of their initial virtual meeting when discussing Lukic's transfer from FK Spartak Subotica. Carnell remarked, “I've had a couple of hundred meetings...and this was probably my best Zoom meeting that I've had.”

Carnell added that Lukic has integrated well into the team due to his "infectious friendliness" but noted that "when he's on the field of play, he means business."

Lukic's performance on the field has been evident through his 269 minutes played and interactions with teammates during celebrations.

His connection with teammates is apparent through various moments such as sprinting towards corners at Subaru Park or participating in postgame huddles. He even joined veteran Alejandro Bedoya in a pre-planned celebration honoring the club.

“I said already to the guys, this is the first time in my life I feel honestly, genuinely part of a team," Lukic stated. "We are a team. Everybody loves each other – it's a love inside."

He emphasized teamwork by saying, “I think we are a really good team...we fight for each other...every training, every game, we play 100%.”

Lukic has contributed significantly to what is described as one of the best starts to a season in club history. The Union aims to continue their winning streak against Nashville SC on Sunday afternoon.
