Union II starts season with draw against New England Revolution II

Philadelphia Union II began their 2025 season with a scoreless draw against New England Revolution II. The match concluded in a post-regulation shootout, resulting in a victory for the hosts, leaving Union II with one point.

Union II will play their home opener at Subaru Park on Monday, March 17th, against New York Red Bulls II. The game is scheduled to start at 7 PM.

The starting lineup for Philadelphia Union II featured eight Homegrown players. Andrew Rick started as goalkeeper, supported by defenders Isaiah LeFlore, Neil Pierre, Nathan Harriel, and Gavin Wetzel. The midfield included David Vazquez, Nick Pariano, CJ Olney, and Cavan Sullivan. Forwards Eddy Davis III and new signing Stas Korzeniowski completed the lineup.

In his debut as head coach, Ryan Richter made four substitutions during the match. In the 68th minute, Sal Olivas and Leo Soria replaced Korzeniowski and Davis. Zach Mastrodimos substituted Sullivan in the 78th minute, and Giovanny Sequera came on for CJ Olney in the 90th minute.

Throughout regulation time, neither team managed to score despite Philadelphia's 17 shots. Union II limited New England to five shots overall. A significant moment occurred late in the match when New England was awarded a penalty kick in the 89th minute. Goalkeeper Andrew Rick successfully blocked the shot with a dive.

The game proceeded to a shootout where Sal Olivas, Nick Pariano, and Neil Pierre scored for Union II. However, it was not enough to surpass New England's four successful attempts.
