After a successful debut last year, the Spring Breakout event returns for 2025, featuring all 30 Major League Baseball teams. These teams will field squads of top prospects in 16 games from March 13-16. Due to an odd number of teams in the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues, the Cubs and Nationals will play twice.
The rosters will be finalized by March 6, but it is anticipated that numerous Top 100 prospects will participate. Last year saw participation from 71 of the Top 100 prospects and nearly two-thirds of Pipeline's organization Top 30 Prospects lists. Here are some notable matchups:
The Red Sox and Rays open the event on March 13 at 7:05 p.m. ET. This game could feature four of the best twelve prospects: Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell, Marcelo Mayer from Boston, and Carson Williams from Tampa Bay. "Chances are this could be a high-scoring affair too," as all nine Top 100 prospects on these teams are hitters.
Another significant matchup on March 13 at 9:05 p.m. ET is between the Cubs and Dodgers. This game might showcase up to thirteen Top 100 prospects. Although Roki Sasaki may not play due to Los Angeles preparing for the Japan Series, other top talents like Matt Shaw and Owen Caissie could take part.
On March 14 at 8:05 p.m., the Mariners face off against the Guardians with a combined thirteen prospects on the Top 100 list. Travis Bazzana leads Cleveland's lineup alongside Chase DeLauter and Ralphy Velazquez. Seattle brings talent such as Colt Emerson and Lazaro Montes.
The Pirates versus Phillies matchup on March 14 at 1:05 p.m. ET stands out for its pitching duel between Andrew Painter and Bubba Chandler. Both teams have strong lineups with players like Justin Crawford from Philadelphia expected to perform.
In another exciting contest on March 16 at 5:05 p.m., Rockies meet White Sox where both have notable farm systems despite Chicago having more Top 100 prospects like Noah Schultz and Kyle Teel.
Fans can look forward to watching potential future All-Stars when Reds clash with Brewers on March 16 at 7:40 p.m., particularly focusing on Reds right-hander Chase Burns and Brewers shortstop Jesus Made.
Tigers take on Braves on March 16 at 4:05 p.m., showcasing Detroit’s promising hitters Max Clark and Bryce Rainer against Atlanta's deep group of arms led by Cam Caminiti.
Finally, Yankees play Orioles on March 15 at 6:05 p.m., featuring three potential Top-100 players including Jasson Domínguez for New York who is a contender for AL Rookie of the Year alongside Baltimore's Coby Mayo.
Overall, Spring Breakout offers fans a preview of future MLB stars across various exciting matchups over four days in mid-March.
