Aidan Miller, a top prospect for the Philadelphia Phillies, is making waves at his first spring training camp in Clearwater, Florida. The 20-year-old, who grew up near BayCare Ballpark, is currently ranked as baseball's No. 27 prospect by MLB Pipeline and holds the top spot within the Phillies' organization.
Miller expressed excitement about sharing the field with stars such as Bryce Harper and Zack Wheeler. "I feel like half of this locker room are guys I grew up watching play," he said. "It's so cool to be in the same presence as those guys."
Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski commented on Miller's potential trajectory: “He might come very quickly,” he said. Although Miller isn't expected to join the Major League roster in 2025, Dombrowski acknowledged that it could happen sooner than anticipated.
In 2024, Miller progressed through three minor league levels, ending with Double-A Reading and posting a .261 batting average with 11 home runs and 60 RBIs. He has also shown proficiency as a shortstop.
Miller emphasized consistency as key to his development: “The biggest thing is staying consistent,” he stated. To improve his game further, he noted, “Every single day I'm trying to find a way to get better at every little aspect of my game.”
Preston Mattingly, now general manager but formerly head of player development for the Phillies, praised Miller's dedication: “What makes him special is his work ethic and who he is,” Mattingly said.
While currently focused on playing shortstop this spring, Miller remains open to other positions if it helps expedite his path to the majors. With discussions around potential future roster changes for players like Alec Bohm and Trea Turner, opportunities may arise.
Miller heard Dombrowski’s comments about moving quickly to the big leagues and confirmed his ambitions: “I mean, that's the goal,” he remarked. “I want to get to Philly as fast as I can.”
