Philadelphia Union ends Spain trip with friendly against AGF

Philadelphia Union concluded their training trip to Spain with a friendly match against AGF from the Danish Superliga. Despite losing 2-1, the team saw appearances from 23 players and scored their first goal of 2025.

Head Coach Bradley Carnell organized his squad into three groups for the match. The starting lineup included veteran players and two academy products, Cavan Sullivan and Frankie Westfield. Homegrown player Jack McGlynn also featured after joining the team following his successful stint with the United States Men's National Team. The starting group played until halftime.

The initial lineup was Andre Blake, Kai Wagner, Olwethu Makhanya, Jakob Glesnes, Frankie Westfield, Jesus Bueno, Jack McGlynn, Cavan Sullivan, Quinn Sullivan, Daniel Gazdag, and Mikael Uhre. In the second group were Andrew Rick, Kai Wagner, Olwethu Makhanya, Jakob Glesnes, Frankie Westfield, Danley Jean Jacques, Alejandro Bedoya, Quinn Sullivan, Daniel Gazdag, Markus Anderson and Mikael Uhre. The final group consisted of Andrew Rick (Olivier Semmle at 73'), Isaiah LeFlore, Neil Pierre, Frankie Westfield Nick Pariano Danley Jean Jacques Alejandro Bedoya Eddy Davis III (Jeremy Rafanello at 73') Markus Anderson CJ Olney Chris Donovan.

Kai Wagner contributed to the first goal in the 25th minute by keeping a corner kick in play for Cavan Sullivan to score via ricochet off the post.

AGF responded with two goals in the second half during counterattacks at minutes 67 and 77. However Carnell emphasized growth over results: "Growth is all I wanted to see," he said.

Carnell explained why Tai Baribo and Ian Glavinovich did not play: "We decided not to play them today because they were struggling a little bit in training yesterday just from a little bit of stress and fatigue."

With this match concluding their stay in Marbella Spain Philadelphia Union will return home before heading to Florida for preseason training in Clearwater next week.
