Philadelphia Union has embarked on a new chapter with Bradley Carnell at the helm as Head Coach. Carnell conducted his first training session with the team at Marbella Football Complex in Spain, marking the beginning of their preseason preparations.

Reflecting on his initial experience, Carnell said, "It should have been the second session. Yesterday, unfortunately, we had a few delays with some of the gear getting here, so we had to improvise a little bit." Despite these challenges, he expressed enthusiasm about the team's potential and collective spirit: "Getting together as a group now... you can just feel a sense of togetherness, a sense of purpose already in this short few days."

Carnell described his first impression of the team as "chippy, edgy, confident," highlighting what he termed 'positive arrogance.' He emphasized the importance of controlling chaotic moments during games to maximize their potential.

The team's trip to Spain is part of an effort to establish foundational principles and strategies. Carnell stated that while such trips are common due to favorable conditions for training, they provide an opportunity to instill defensive philosophies and other key elements within the squad.

He also shared his vision for creating excitement and energy within the team: "My first goal is to create a signature. What does this team look and feel like after five weeks?"

In terms of daily activities in Spain, Carnell explained that it involves rigorous planning and execution both on and off the field: "It's pretty much a full-time job when we're out here." This includes double sessions on the field as well as video analysis in the evenings.

Building camaraderie among players is crucial for Carnell. He believes that guiding players through principles rather than just tactics fosters confidence and trust within the group.

With players ranging from 15 to 37 years old, development remains central to Philadelphia Union's philosophy. Carnell stressed connecting with each player individually before taking charge: "I phoned almost every single player... It's important for me that we come connected as one."
