The Philadelphia Eagles have opened a 21-day practice window for their left tackle, Jordan Mailata. The announcement was made on Monday, indicating that Mailata is nearing a return to the field after being placed on Injured Reserve due to a hamstring injury sustained in Week 6 against Cleveland.
In Mailata's absence, Fred Johnson has filled in as left tackle for the Eagles over the past four games, all of which resulted in victories for the team. Despite missing these games, Mailata remains highly rated by Pro Football Focus (PFF), ranking as the third-best offensive tackle this season. He stands out as the second-best pass protector and fourth-best run-blocking tackle according to PFF metrics.
Mailata's journey with the Eagles began when he was drafted in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Initially lacking extensive football experience, he transitioned from rugby to American football and became a starter in 2020 after two developmental seasons. His performance earned him a long-term contract extension before the 2021 season and another during the 2024 offseason. This season, Mailata has allowed only one sack according to PFF statistics.
Mailata's potential return adds depth to an already successful roster that recently secured a win over the Cowboys and rested starters for an upcoming Thursday night game.
