Isaiah Rodgers is making a return to the NFL after missing the entire 2023 season due to a violation of the league's gambling policy. The cornerback, who was waived by Indianapolis and later signed by the Philadelphia Eagles, has been reinstated and is eager to make an impact on the field.
Rodgers expressed his enthusiasm for returning to play, stating, "Feels so good. I envisioned this going on for a long time." Reflecting on his suspension, he added, "I had the game taken away from me – by my own doing – for the first time since I was 4 years old and it was eye opening for me."
Now back with the Eagles, Rodgers has been actively participating in the team's offseason program. He emphasized his commitment to regaining his form: "Work, work, work. Focus, focus, focus. It is all about business now." As a sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Colts, Rodgers played in 45 games with 10 starts at cornerback and also contributed significantly on kickoffs.
Feeling confident about his physical readiness, Rodgers said, "I feel good. I feel fast. I feel light on my feet and I feel I'm making a lot more plays than I expected I would." He aims to demonstrate that his year-long absence hasn't affected his abilities.
During his suspension, Rodgers maintained discipline in training independently and adhered to strict work habits and diet. His dedication paid off when he was cleared to return to play.
Reflecting on what he missed most during his time away from football, Rodgers shared that it was primarily about fan interaction: "It was the fans, honestly," he said. "The locker room environment, for sure, but the interaction with the fans is something that I love so much."
Rodgers is grateful for another chance in professional football and looks forward to contributing positively both on and off the field.
