The fifth-round draft pick from Clemson naturally chose this number, reflecting a family legacy. His father, Jeremiah Trotter, was an Eagles third-round draft pick in 1998 and is a member of the franchise's Hall of Fame.

Trotter Jr. expressed gratitude for his family's connection to the Eagles. A video capturing Eagles Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie greeting him shortly after his selection highlighted this bond. "It was emotional as well, because I know the memories he has with my mother (Tammi, who passed away in 2023) and my dad and the family in general with me coming around (the NovaCare Complex and Lincoln Financial Field) as a kid," Trotter Jr. said.

The young linebacker is focused on playing football without any guarantees, as the Eagles have strengthened their linebacker position through free agency and the NFL Draft. "I feel like you've got to kind of treat it like a game," he said about maintaining focus amidst celebrations.
