From the perspective of the head coach, Jalen Hurts faces intense pressure on every play when the Eagles' offense is on the field. Nick Sirianni describes Hurts' role as remarkable given the fast-paced nature of the game.
"Jalen plays the hardest position in sports, in my opinion," Sirianni said. "These guys are coming down there trying to kill you, and he's got to make split decisions on where to go with the football based on a defense that's trying to deceive you of what they're playing."
Sirianni highlights that Hurts must be accurate with his throws while under pressure and acknowledges the extensive preparation required for his role. He praises Hurts for taking care of the football and contributing significantly to their two-game win streak.
The 2024 version of Jalen Hurts shows progress, with statistics including seven touchdowns, four interceptions, a career-best 67.8 completion percentage, a strong 94.4 passer rating, and four rushing touchdowns. However, these numbers do not capture his entire impact.
Despite changes in personnel through six games, Hurts has been a constant presence in Kellen Moore's new offense. After a victory over the New York Giants, Hurts emphasized team play and efficiency: "Every team out there really wants to defensively take the ball away, be explosive on offense... I think we're climbing in the right direction."
The Eagles' offense features a powerful line and outstanding pass catchers when complete. As they prepare for Cincinnati following wins over Cleveland and New York since their bye week, focus remains on reducing turnovers and maximizing possessions.
Moore commented on recent improvements: "Individually and as a collective group, protecting the football is something we want to do a better job of... Jalen has made some excellent decisions the past couple of weeks."
