Gerald Davis, head coach of Pemberton High School's football team, has been named Eagles Coach of the Week. Davis's journey into coaching began with encouragement from his late wife, Tamara. Unhappy with his son's youth team's coaching, Tamara motivated him to take on the role himself. This led to an 11-year stint coaching in the Pemberton Youth Football Program, including six years as its president. In 2012, he became a volunteer coach at Pemberton Township High School.

The unexpected passing of Tamara in 2018 prompted Davis to take a year off from coaching. During this period, he recognized his passion for football. "Without her and that journey we had together, I wouldn't be coaching," Davis stated. He cherishes this part of his life and honors Tamara through various charitable efforts.

In 2019, Davis advanced to the position of defensive coordinator before becoming head coach. Tragedy struck again when his daughter Ciera died from leukemia at age 17. In memory of both Tamara and Ciera, Davis established scholarships supporting student-athletes and community engagement.

Davis played college football at William and Mary alongside notable figures such as Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin and Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott. At Pemberton, he emphasizes life lessons beyond football for his players. "Our goal is to get you to be outstanding young men in the community," he said.

After a challenging previous season with no wins, Davis promised improvement. His team now boasts a 4-2 record after defeating Florence Township Memorial 28-6 last week. "We were changing the culture here," Davis explained about their progress.

As they prepare for their next game against Riverside, Davis reflects on his connection to Pemberton High School: "It's always Pemberton pride... I'm proud that the community is proud that I could be a representative for the community and for the kids."
