The Philadelphia Eagles have placed their starting left tackle, Jordan Mailata, on Injured Reserve following a hamstring injury sustained during Sunday's victory over the Cleveland Browns. This move will sideline Mailata for at least four games and leaves an open spot on the Eagles' active roster as they prepare to face the New York Giants.
The team has not yet announced who will fill Mailata's position against the Giants. Fred Johnson, who has been serving as the primary backup swing tackle this season, stepped in for Mailata during the game against the Browns. Another option is right guard Mekhi Becton, who has experience as a starting left tackle from his tenure with the New York Jets.
Mailata became a starter midway through the 2020 season and has since become a key player at left tackle alongside Lane Johnson, forming one of the league's top tackle pairings. The Eagles extended Mailata's contract this offseason. A two-time Pro Bowl alternate, he is currently rated by Pro Football Focus as the top pass-blocking tackle and fourth overall tackle in the league through six weeks of play.
