The 2024 MLB playoffs will begin on Tuesday, but the Philadelphia Phillies won’t take the field until this weekend for the National League Division Series. The Phillies secured the No. 2 seed in the NL, granting them a bye in the Wild Card Series and home-field advantage for Game 1 of the NLDS on Saturday.

According to BetMGM, the Phillies are among the top contenders for the championship. They are listed at +450 to win the World Series, tied with the New York Yankees for second-shortest odds. This gives Philadelphia an implied probability of 18.18% to win its first World Series since 2008.

The Phillies are also +200 to win the National League, translating to an implied probability of 33.33% to reach the World Series as October begins. They trail only behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are +165 favorites to win the NL and +325 to win it all.

FanGraphs’ projections favor Philadelphia over Los Angeles in both markets. The Phillies have a 30.1% chance of winning the NLCS and a 17.2% chance of winning the World Series, while the Dodgers stand at 28% and 16.5%, respectively.

BetMGM also offers odds for World Series MVP, with Los Angeles’ Shohei Ohtani as a +850 favorite. Philadelphia’s Bryce Harper is tied for second-best odds at +1250 (7.41%). Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber each have +2200 odds (4.35%) for MVP honors.

Initially, betting odds were less favorable towards Philadelphia; they were listed at +1500 to win it all in preseason rankings behind five other teams and started trading at shorter than 6/1 by June.

Philadelphia was also given +800 odds to win their league during spring training after consecutive trips past at least one round in previous seasons.

Additionally, this season marked Philadelphia's first NL East title since 2011 despite being preseason underdogs with +325 odds for division victory. The team surpassed its projected win total of 89.5 games for four consecutive seasons.
