Philadelphia Union announced the return of the Army-Navy Cup, presented by Leidos, to Subaru Park. The event will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11th. This match between rival service academies is part of their regular season schedule in the Patriot League. Tickets are now available for purchase.
“It is an honor every year to host the Army-Navy Cup at Subaru Park,” said Tim McDermott, President of Philadelphia Union. “Entering their 13th edition of this annual match is a testament to the longevity of this rivalry and sportsmanship between these two esteemed academies. We look forward to another memorable and exciting match this year.”
The Army-Navy Cup is supported by a coalition of local and national sports, civic, and corporate entities, led by Leidos. Gerry Fasano, Chief Growth Officer at Leidos, stated, "Leidos is honored to sponsor the Army-Navy Cup, reinforcing our commitment to supporting our nation's service members."
Philadelphia Union has hosted the Army-Navy Cup since its inaugural match in 2012. Army currently leads the series with a record of 5-3-4 across 12 editions. The first match in 2012 ended in a draw, as did last year’s matchup.
Navy enters the game after finishing the 2023 campaign with a 6-8-5 record under head coach Tim O'Donohue. Rising senior Charlie Kriel will serve as team captain for the 2024 season. Key players include forwards Andrew Schug and Noah Ward, and goalkeeper Pierce Holbrook.
“We are excited to return to Subaru Park this year,” said Navy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk. “Our program has really enjoyed the stadium over the last 12 seasons.”
Army concluded the 2023 season with an overall record of 3-9-4 under head coach Brian Plotkin. Midfielder Jack Meyer will captain the Black Knights into his junior season. Forward Gage Lyons led the team in points last year.
“We are excited to continue what has become one of our annual highlights for Men’s Soccer,” said Army Director of Athletics Mike Buddie.
Local sponsor Visit Delco will manage Union Yards adjacent to Subaru Park starting this October, encouraging attendance from veterans and their families.
