Philadelphia police handled 1,424 property crimes in week ending July 28

Philadelphia police registered 1,424 property crimes over the week ending July 28, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.

This represents a decrease of 6.3% from the previous week, when police faced 1,519 incidents.

Property crime includes residential burglaries, retail thefts, stolen autos, thefts, thefts from auto, thefts from person, thefts of motor vehicle tags and сommercial burglaries.

So far this year, the city has reported a total of 40,600 property crimes.

Notably, the week ending May 26 marked the highest incidence of these types of crimes this year, with 1,660 cases, underscoring the need for heightened vigilance and community cooperation.

Philadelphia grappled with a staggering surge in property crimes in 2023. According to the annual Pew Charitable Trusts report, the city registered more than 78,000 property crimes, which pushed the total number of major crimes (violent and property combined) to a 20-year high of 93,009.

In contrast, violent crimes, encompassing assault, robbery, and homicide, saw a significant decline in 2023, reaching their lowest level in a decade.
