The top of the 2024 Eagles NFL Draft Class has shown promise during Training Camp, maintaining focus and dedication to the playbook. While there is still progress to be made before the regular season begins, early indications are positive for these new players.
**CB Quinyon Mitchell, Round 1**
Mitchell has embraced the challenge of competing at the NFL level, particularly enjoying his reps against star wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. "I am just grinding right now, moving up the depth chart, and competing out there every day," Mitchell said. He emphasized the importance of taking meeting rooms and off-the-field time seriously to improve his game.
Mitchell has been versatile in playing both inside and outside at cornerback and aims to combine tight technique with athletic talent. "I love being out there on the field helping this defense," he added. He also highlighted mentorship from teammates like Slay, James Bradberry, and Avonte Maddox as crucial to his development.
**CB Cooper DeJean, Round 2**
DeJean is recovering from a hamstring injury sustained prior to Training Camp and has not yet participated in on-field practices. However, he has been able to watch film and attend meetings to learn the defense.
**DE Jalyx Hunt, Round 3**
Hunt's journey from Cornell to Houston Christian to the NFL involves significant transitions. He is committed to giving his all every day in training camp. "It's dope. It's cool. Really embracing it," Hunt said about his experience so far.
Hunt focuses on improving his explosive get-off at the snap of the football and aims to be a difference-maker in defense by enhancing his hand usage and overall technique.
**RB Will Shipley, Round 4**
Shipley finds himself learning alongside Saquon Barkley and Kenneth Gainwell in a room where mutual support is key. "It's been great having those guys because we're all learning the same thing and helping each other out," Shipley noted.
Assistant Head Coach/Running Backs Coach Jemal Singleton praised Shipley's work ethic and leadership ability: "Will did some really good things at Clemson... I thought his personality... I have some close friends that are on staff there that couldn't speak anything but great things about him."
Shipley sets high goals for himself: "I'm a really competitive guy... I want to be one of the greatest to do it."
