Parks & Rec offers Sensory Friendly Swim hours at six Philadelphia pools

This summer, Parks & Rec is offering sensory friendly swim hours. This is an open swim time with a quiet, less-crowded environment. 

This swim time is set aside for those with autism and neurodivergence and their families. You are encourage to pre-register for this event. View the list of locations below. Click on the links below to find contact info to pre-register for Sensory Friendly Swim:

Barry Pool — 1800 Johnston St., 19145 Sundays 12 p.m.-1 p.m. (starts July 9) 
Fox Chase Pool — 7901 Ridgeway St., 19111 Thursdays 5 p.m.-7 p.m. 
Kelly Pool — 4231 Lansdowne Dr., 19131 Fridays 11 a.m.-12 p.m. 
Kendrick Pool — 5822 Ridge Ave., 19128 Sundays 12 p.m.-1 p.m. 
Mitchell Pool — 3700 Whitehall Ln., 19114 Fridays 5 p.m.-7 p.m. 
Scanlon Pool — 1099 E. Tioga St., 19134 Fridays 6 p.m.-7 p.m. 
 

This program is one result of Parks & Rec’s system-wide inclusion plan. This plan includes a series of recommendations and resources that seek to make recreation centers welcoming places for individuals with disabilities and the neurodiverse. The plan looks to:

  • Shift from a model of isolation to inclusion.
  • Enhance capacity and connection across PPR’s system.
  • Provide optimal service for all.
  • Support programs and amenities for all, in all neighborhoods.
