Philadelphia Union II forward Malik Jakupovic has been selected to participate in the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team Domestic Identity Training Camp during the September FIFA window, according to an announcement from the club.
Jakupovic is one of three Union II players called up by the United States this window. He will join defender Kaiden Moore at the camp with the U-19s, while midfielder Kellan LeBlanc was chosen for the U-17 USMNT squad that will play two friendly matches in the Netherlands.
The training camp is part of a broader initiative by the U.S. Soccer Federation to implement its “U.S. Way” philosophy, which aims to increase opportunities for youth national team players and help them progress toward representing their country at senior-level world championships.
Both the U-17 and U-19 teams are scheduled to train from September 1 through September 8 at McCurry Park in Fayetteville, Georgia.
The roster for the U-17 men’s national team includes players from clubs across Major League Soccer and several international academies. Jakupovic is listed among seven forwards called into camp.
“Jakupovic is one of three signed Union II players called-up by the U.S. this window, with the forward joining defender Kaiden Moore for this Identity Training Camp with the U-19s while midfielder Kellan LeBlanc was selected for the U-17 USMNT that will play two friendlies in the Netherlands.”
“The camp is a part of the Federation’s continued focus on the U.S. Way philosophy, which emphasizes increased programming for Youth National Teams to create more opportunities for young players to advance through the pathway to the senior National Team with the goal of representing their country at a world championship.”
“The U-17’s will train concurrently with the U-19s from Sept. 1-8 at McCurry Park in Fayetteville, Ga.”
