Mikael Uhre has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday following his performance in Philadelphia Union’s 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids. Uhre entered the match as a substitute in the 73rd minute with the score tied at 1-1. In the 89th minute, he received a pass from Indiana Vassilev, maneuvered past a defender, and scored what would become the game-winning goal.

Shortly after, Uhre added another goal by winning a loose ball on the right sideline and finishing for his second of the night. These goals were his third and fourth of the season, making him only the fifth player in club history to reach 40 or more goals across all competitions.

With this win, Philadelphia Union moved into first place in both the Eastern Conference and Supporters’ Shield standings. After the match, Uhre commented on his performance and its significance for the team: “I’m on cloud nine. It’s been a while, so it means aloto getting back on the scoresheet, but even more just helping the team get that win because this is huge,” Uhre said.

“We’re on a great run, and now we can keep going.”

Uhre is now the twelfth different Union player to earn Team of the Matchweek honors this season. Other honorees include Markus Anderson (Matchday 19), Andre Blake (Matchday 10), Tai Baribo (Matchdays 1, 2, and 13), Bruno Damiani (Matchday 20), Ian Glavinovich (Matchday 5), Jakob Glesnes (Matchday 10), Nathan Harriel (Matchday 13), Jovan Lukic (Matchday 3), Olwethu Makhanya (Matchdays 24 and 25), Quinn Sullivan (Matchdays 2 and 9), Indiana Vassilev (Matchdays 11 and 24) and Kai Wagner (Matchdays 3 and 16).

Philadelphia Union will next play against Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt at Subaru Park on Saturday, August 2nd. The international friendly will feature former Union homegrown Paxten Aaronson returning to Philadelphia. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30PM ET.
