PHILADELPHIA — The question of which former Philadelphia Phillies player will next be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame remains a topic of interest among fans and analysts. MLB.com has identified five players with strong connections to the Phillies who have yet to be enshrined in Cooperstown.
Jimmy Rollins, who finished his career with 2,455 hits, remains on the Hall of Fame ballot after first appearing in 2022. He won the National League Most Valuable Player Award in 2007, earned four Gold Glove Awards, one Silver Slugger Award, made three NL All-Star teams, and contributed to a World Series win for the Phillies. “Rollins compares well to other Hall of Fame shortstops, too. His career bWAR ranks 25th all time among shortstops, better than six Hall of Fame shortstops, including Phil Rizzuto.”
Chase Utley is another candidate whose career bWAR ranks 15th among second basemen. “Utley’s 62.0 bWAR from 2004-14 ranked third behind only Albert Pujols (76.2 WAR) and Adrián Beltré (63.3 WAR). Miguel Cabrera (59.3) and Alex Rodriguez (52.2) rounded out the top five.” Utley received nearly 40 percent of votes in his second year on the ballot.
Curt Schilling’s postseason performances began with the Phillies and established him as a notable big-game pitcher. “Schilling had a Hall of Fame-worthy career based on his regular-season statistics, but he truly made his mark in the postseason as one of baseball’s greatest big-game pitchers.” Despite this record, Schilling did not reach the required vote threshold during his eligibility period.
Bobby Abreu is recognized for reaching base nearly 4,000 times during his career and leading Major League Baseball in walks from 1998-2011. “Abreu might not be the stereotypical Hall of Famer, but with 195 home runs, 254 stolen bases and a 128 OPS+, don’t be surprised if he continues to gain support in the coming years.”
Cole Hamels will debut on the ballot in 2026 after a career that included four All-Star selections and MVP honors for both the World Series and NLCS in 2008 when he helped lead Philadelphia to its second championship title since its founding. “During his career, he ranked fifth among all pitchers in bWAR (59.0). Only Justin Verlander (72.5), Clayton Kershaw (67.2), Zack Greinke (62.9) and Max Scherzer (59.7) ranked higher.”
The Philadelphia Phillies are one of Major League Baseball’s oldest franchises and have operated from their base in Philadelphia since their originsin the late nineteenth century. The team has won multiple league titles—including World Series victories in 1980 and again in 2008—and hosts games at Citizens Bank Park while engaging fans through events and outreach activities.
