Sharon Kurfuerst, Executive Director of Temple Women & Families Hospital, has been appointed to the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Committee on Maternal and Child Health. The appointment highlights her leadership in launching and operating Temple Women & Families Hospital, as well as her influence in developing strategies for maternal and child health within large healthcare systems.

The AHA committee provides guidance on maternal and child health strategies, public policy matters, and advocacy positions. Its 15 members include leaders from prominent women’s and children’s health organizations such as Texas Children’s Hospital, Anne & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals.

Kurfuerst will serve a three-year term on the committee beginning January 1, 2026, through December 31, 2028. In this role, she will help shape the AHA’s national policy agenda for maternal and child health, contribute to best-practice development efforts, and represent communities that are often underrepresented in maternal health discussions.

“Her insight and experience will play a meaningful role in shaping the future of maternal and child health nationwide,” according to the announcement.

Additionally, labor and delivery services have recently moved from Temple University Hospital–Main Campus at Broad & Ontario to the new Temple Women & Families Hospital.
