Rohit Soans, MD, who serves as Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Temple University Hospital, recently discussed with Flow Space the significance of waist-to-hip ratio as a health indicator for women in midlife. Dr. Soans pointed out that current research is increasingly linking a higher waist-to-hip ratio to a greater risk of metabolic diseases and other health problems.
“Rohit Soans, MD, Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Temple University Hospital, explained to Flow Space that a growing body of research has connected a higher waist-to-hip ratio with increased chance of metabolic disease and other health issues.”
The focus on this metric comes as medical professionals look for better ways to assess risk factors beyond traditional measurements like body mass index (BMI). For women entering midlife, changes in body composition can mean that monitoring waist-to-hip ratio provides more relevant information about potential health risks.
Additionally, it was announced that Labor & Delivery services have been relocated from Temple University Hospital–Main Campus (Broad & Ontario) to the new women & families hospital.
