Eman A. Hamad, MD, who leads the Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Program at Temple University Hospital, recently spoke with Flow Space about heart-related risks from the flu in midlife women. The discussion followed the passing of Mickey Lee, a 35-year-old former Big Brother contestant.
Dr. Hamad shared her perspective on what women in this age group should be aware of regarding cardiac complications that can arise after contracting influenza.
“Women in their midlife years need to be vigilant about flu symptoms and seek medical attention if they experience chest pain, shortness of breath, or an irregular heartbeat,” Dr. Hamad said.
She emphasized that while most people recover from the flu without serious problems, some individuals may develop heart issues as a result of the infection.
