Gerard Criner, MD, FACP, FACCP, Director of the Temple Lung Center, is serving as the global principal investigator for the BREATHE-3 trial. This clinical study is a multicenter, randomized, interventional, controlled phase 3 trial. The trial aims to evaluate the safety and effect of a new bronchoscopic device on lung function in adults with severe COPD-related emphysema and hyperinflation. According to Healio, the first patient was treated in August.

Dr. Criner told Healio: “The BREATHE-3 trial will help us determine if this novel device can provide meaningful improvements for patients living with advanced COPD.”

The BREATHE-3 trial includes multiple centers and seeks to gather data that could inform future treatment approaches for individuals affected by severe COPD.
