A major winter storm is expected to affect the Philadelphia area this weekend and into Monday, with wind chills forecasted to drop near zero. Temple Health announced that its facilities will remain open during the storm, but some appointments or services may be rescheduled. Patients whose visits are impacted will be contacted directly, and updates will be available on TempleHealth.org as well as through myTempleHealth.

Dr. Michael DeAngelis, Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for Emergency Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, spoke with The Philadelphia Inquirer about potential health risks associated with extremely cold weather and low wind chills in Philadelphia. Dr. DeAngelis explained that “wind chill is a measure of heat loss from the body from the combination of temperature and wind.” The article was also picked up by PennLive.com.
