Temple Health is expected to face significant financial challenges due to federal legislation and changes in Medicaid funding. According to a report by the Philadelphia Business Journal, H.R. 1, the Reconciliation Bill of 2025, along with related federal Medicaid cuts, will result in an estimated $519 million loss for Temple Health over a ten-year period beginning in 2026.
In response to these anticipated losses, Temple Health has outlined several measures aimed at improving its financial stability. These include a salary freeze for senior executive team members and efforts to expand its transplant program. The health system is also opening the Temple Women & Families Hospital, which will allow for additional medical/surgical and intensive care unit beds at the main campus.
Other initiatives involve increasing access to cancer care through new Fox Chase Cancer sites at locations such as Voorhees and Temple Health – Chestnut Hill Hospital, as well as expanding services at Fox Chase Cancer Center – Buckingham.
Michael A. Young, MHA, FACHE, President and CEO of Temple Health, was interviewed by the Philadelphia Business Journal about these developments.
Beginning September 3 at 8:00 AM, Labor and Delivery services will no longer be available at Temple University Hospital – Main Campus; all childbirth services are being moved to a new hospital location. Additionally, major reductions in public transportation services may affect travel to and from Temple Health campuses.
