Safety Sydney Brown is set to take on a starting role for the Philadelphia Eagles following an injury to rookie Andrew Mukuba. Mukuba, who had become a regular starter in the Eagles’ secondary and was recently praised by Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio for his reliability, is expected to miss some time.
Brown, now in his third year with the team, expressed confidence in his readiness. “I’m ready,” he said on Tuesday. “I feel like I’ve been ready since [Training] Camp. I think I’ve been prepared since I got here. I’ve had a couple setbacks in the past. It’s just been something to work back from, but I think I’ve been ready to go since I came here.”
Since being drafted in the third round in 2023, Brown has appeared in 36 games for Philadelphia, making seven starts and recording two interceptions—one of which was returned for a 99-yard touchdown during his rookie season.
He will be joining Reed Blankenship as part of the Eagles’ safety duo. Brown highlighted their familiarity with each other as an advantage: “I think he’s great. I think we have a good rapport,” Brown said of Blankenship. “We’ve been together for three years. […] I think just being as close as we are in the locker room and knowing him as a person, knowing him over the last few years, I think we’re going to be great together.” — Matt Ryan
