Philadelphia Union's David Vazquez has been nominated as a finalist for the U.S. Soccer 2024 Young Male Player of the Year award. The announcement was made on Tuesday afternoon.
Vazquez, an 18-year-old midfielder from Los Angeles, California, had a notable year both at the club and international levels. He played a key role in the USA's runner-up finish at the Concacaf U-20 Championship, which secured their spot in the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup. During this tournament, Vazquez earned the Golden Boot by scoring three goals and providing two assists.
Having signed with Philadelphia Union as a homegrown player on April 29th, Vazquez contributed significantly to Philadelphia Union II's most successful season in its history. He scored three goals and made four assists during the regular season while playing every minute of their journey to the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference Championship.
Fans can participate in voting for all end-of-year awards on ussoccer.com. Voting is open from Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. ET until Saturday, Dec. 14 at 12:59 a.m. ET. Winners will be announced in January 2025. Fan votes will constitute 15 percent of the total vote tally, with contributions also coming from National Team players, coaches, media members, and other stakeholders.
