Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson has been nominated for the NFL's Salute to Service Award by his team. Johnson, known for his achievements on the field as a five-time Pro Bowl and four-time All-Pro selection, has also made significant contributions off the field in support of military families.

The nomination highlights Johnson's commitment to serving active-duty military members, veterans, and their families. In 2023, he was named the team's Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee and chose the Travis Manion Foundation as his charity. The foundation supports veterans and families of fallen soldiers.

"When I talk to these people, they all say this one certain organization has helped the most, and it's not just talk, it's a lot of action," said Johnson. "Shoutout to the Travis Manion Foundation and everything they've done and allowed me to be a part of."

Johnson participates in the Gold Star Family initiative through this foundation. This program honors families of fallen heroes by offering services at no cost. He meets with these families before every road game, listening to their stories and providing game tickets.

"It just puts life into perspective," Johnson explained. "I'm obviously playing a game that's for entertainment and enjoyment, but when you hear real families that go through real hardships...you hear what they've overcome."

Johnson credits his trainer Gabe Rangel, a former Marine, for inspiring him to engage more deeply with military family initiatives. "He's been a tremendous part of my life," said Johnson about Rangel. "I felt Gabe really helped me step into that role more."

Fans have until November 30 to vote for nominees who will become finalists for the award. Three finalists will be announced in January, with the recipient being honored during Super Bowl LIX week.
