Three individuals have been indicted for allegedly conspiring to smuggle contraband, including cellphones, drugs, and weapons, into the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center. United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced the charges against Breyanna Cornish, 29, Jawayne Brown, 40, both from Philadelphia, and Ahmad Nasir, 43, currently residing at State Correctional Institution – Greene in Franklin Township.
Cornish faces federal program bribery charges for her involvement in the conspiracy. Brown and Nasir also face additional charges related to a conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute Suboxone.
If convicted, Cornish could receive a maximum sentence of 15 years' imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and a fine up to $500,000. Brown faces up to 25 years' imprisonment with similar terms of supervised release and a fine reaching $1 million. Nasir could be sentenced to up to 35 years' imprisonment along with three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $1.5 million.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI with significant assistance from the Philadelphia Department of Prisons. Assistant United States Attorney Meghan E. Claiborne is prosecuting the case.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation; all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
