In response to the Biden Administration’s blockade of liquified natural gas (LNG), Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia) and the House Republican Policy Committee, led by Chairman Josh Kail (R-Beaver/Washington), convened a hearing and press conference to discuss the growing demand for LNG and the negative implications of halting new exportation.
The hearing, titled “Fueling Pennsylvania’s Future: Liquid Natural Gas,” featured testifiers Carl Marrara, executive director of the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association; John Bane, director of government affairs at EQT Corporation; and Rob Bair, president of the Pennsylvania Building and Construction Trades Council.
Pennsylvania is the second largest producer of natural gas in the United States, following Texas. Globally, demand for LNG is increasing, which has positively impacted the environment. According to an economic impact report published by the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association, 500 million tons of CO2 emissions have been reduced since 2010 due to natural gas utilization. The state's LNG production is expected to boost the economy by creating jobs and spurring manufacturing while ensuring affordability and reliability for consumers.
“Pennsylvania is on a direct path for an electricity crisis. PJM is sounding an alarm,” said White. “This not a partisan issue; it’s an issue for all. Pennsylvania has an abundance of natural gas. Let’s meet the growing energy demand and put Pennsylvania to work for our state, our country and our world.”
“The world is a better place with Pennsylvania energy,” said Kail. “Without commonsense energy policy, we lose. If we want to grow jobs, build, reduce emissions, protect our country and others, then we must lift the ban on natural gas exports.”
