GFS is pleased to announce that a generous gift of $1.25 million from the Maguire Foundation will make the Maguire Scholars Program a permanent source of tuition assistance for GFS students who demonstrate commitment to their academics and communities. Together with matching funds, the new $2.5 million endowed fund will support a portion of tuition for a minium of 12 GFS students annually.
GFS Maguire Scholars have gone on to attend prominent colleges and universities, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Morehouse College, Arcadia University, New York University, and Temple University. They have also made the most of a range of opportunities, including travel abroad and collegiate-level subjects, such as environmental law, sports medicine, documentary film, and life in an aerospace lab, during their time at GFS.
“We are so pleased to establish this endowment, which honors my parents’ legacy of helping students prepare for a brighter future,” says Megan Maguire Nicoletti, President & CEO of the Maguire Foundation. “And we know that like our other partner schools, GFS is committed to preparing the Maguire Scholars to be community-minded leaders when they graduate.”
Each cohort of Maguire Scholars is unique and all have been remarkable contributors as leaders and community members both on and off campus. They have been involved with organizations such as Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia, Project HOME, and the NAACP, mentored younger students at GFS, and pursued internship opportunities in Community Defense Law.
“We are immensely grateful for the Maguire Foundation’s partnership over the years,” said Head of School Dana Weeks. “This new endowment will help us support capable young people as they begin to understand their remarkable gifts and join the many GFS alums who continue to serve as forces for good after graduation.”
