Senator Joe Picozzi has provided updates on ongoing efforts to address challenges facing SEPTA, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, in a series of posts made on August 27, 2025.
In his first message, Senator Picozzi stated: “I am continuing to fight for a solution for SEPTA. Reliable transit matters to all of us, and I wanted to provide an update on our progress.” (August 27, 2025).
Later that day, he addressed developments involving state leadership and funding proposals: “I am encouraged to see that Governor Shapiro is showing openness to using the Public Transportation Trust Fund, the proposal the Senate put forth a few weeks ago. This is a step forward, and I remain committed to finding a solution.” (August 27, 2025).
In his most recent post on the same day, Senator Picozzi noted bipartisan movement toward consensus: “Progress is being made and both parties, both chambers are coming closer together. Let’s get it done.” (August 27, 2025).
SEPTA serves as the primary public transportation provider in southeastern Pennsylvania. In recent years, its financial stability has been challenged by factors such as declining ridership and rising operating costs. State lawmakers have been debating potential solutions for sustainable funding. The Public Transportation Trust Fund referenced by Senator Picozzi is one proposed mechanism under legislative consideration.
Governor Josh Shapiro has indicated willingness to consider new funding approaches for transit agencies like SEPTA. Ongoing negotiations involve input from both parties and legislative chambers in Pennsylvania’s General Assembly.
