Philadelphia Flyers prospect Porter Martone had a strong debut for the Michigan State Spartans, scoring a goal and providing a primary assist in the team’s 4-0 exhibition win over the University of Windsor’s Lancers. Martone, who was selected sixth overall in the 2025 NHL Draft, scored on his first shift after receiving a centering pass from teammate Daniel Russell.
Later in the game, with Michigan State ahead 3-0, Martone assisted Nashville Predators’ 2025 first-round pick Ryker Lee by passing him the puck on the left side. Lee then scored to extend the lead to four goals.
Martone also demonstrated competitiveness during a sequence where he responded to physical play from an opponent after a scoring chance.
Shane Vansaghi, another Flyers prospect and their 2025 second-round pick, played right wing on a line centered by Columbus Blue Jackets’ 2024 first-round selection Cayden Lindstrom.
Michigan State will begin its regular season with home games against New Hampshire on October 9 and 10 in East Lansing.
Other Flyers prospects are also seeing early action this season. Goaltender Yegor Zavragin has appeared in five games for SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL, posting three wins and two losses along with one shutout. Jack Berglund has played five games for Färjestad BK Karlstad in Sweden’s SHL after performing well at Development Camp and during the World Junior Summer Showcase. Jack Nesbitt participated in Rookie Camp and part of NHL training camp before returning to junior hockey; he has played one game for Windsor Spitfires so far this OHL season.
Matthew Gard tallied his first goal of the season for Red Deer Rebels of the WHL and has been effective in faceoffs through two games. Spencer Gill made his debut with Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), showing solid defensive skills despite not recording any points. Max Westergård secured an opening night roster spot with Frölunda HC of Sweden’s SHL after representing Finland at the Summer Showcase and has started strong offensively with seven points—including two goals—in his first three regular-season games.
