The Philadelphia Phillies have signed right-handed pitcher Zach Pop to a one-year contract. Pop will compete for a bullpen position during spring training.
Pop, who is 29 years old, has appeared in 163 relief games over five seasons with the Marlins (2021-22), Blue Jays (2022-24), Mariners (2025), and Mets (2025). He holds an 8-6 record with a 4.88 ERA, along with 126 strikeouts and 55 walks in 162 1/3 innings pitched. Known for his sinkerball, Pop tends to generate groundballs.
Because Pop is out of minor league options, he may have an advantage for one of two open bullpen spots on the team.
Six bullpen positions are already set, filled by right-handers Jhoan Duran, Brad Keller, Orion Kerkering, and Jonathan Bowlan as well as left-handers José Alvarado and Tanner Banks. Other candidates for the remaining two roles include Rule 5 Draft pick Zach McCambley; newly acquired right-hander Yoniel Curet; newly acquired left-hander Tyler Backhus; returnees Nolan Hoffman, Seth Johnson, Max Lazar, and possibly others.
Pop’s addition brings the Phillies’ roster to 39 players out of a possible 40. The team continues efforts to re-sign free-agent catcher J.T. Realmuto.
