The Milwaukee Brewers continue to lead Major League Baseball’s Power Rankings for the third consecutive week, despite their 14-game winning streak ending with a loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. The Brewers remain eight games ahead in the NL Central and six games ahead of any other team in baseball.
The Los Angeles Dodgers hold onto second place, with an upcoming schedule that includes several series against teams not currently in playoff position. The Toronto Blue Jays have moved up to third after nearly securing their 10th series sweep of the season, while pitcher Max Scherzer is showing strong form as a potential Game 1 starter for the playoffs.
The Philadelphia Phillies are ranked fourth, dropping one spot from last week. Concerns have arisen over Zack Wheeler’s health and his potential return this season as the team aims for a World Series run. However, Alec Bohm returned to the lineup on Sunday after missing more than a month due to a left rib fracture and hit a home run in his second at-bat. “The Zack Wheeler news could potentially be devastating for a team trying to win a World Series right now — and that could depend on whether he’s able to beat the odds and return this season — but they did at least get the return of Alec Bohm on Sunday after missing more than a month with a left rib fracture. He seemed happy to be back: He homered in his second at-bat.”
Other teams rounding out the top five include the Detroit Tigers, who have won 13 of their last 20 games and now hold the third-best record in the American League over that span.
Further down, teams such as the Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, and Boston Red Sox complete the top ten rankings. The New York Yankees are noted for winning back-to-back series for the first time since May and seeing Aaron Judge regain form following an injury.
Voters contributing to these rankings include Nathalie Alonso, Jason Catania, Mark Feinsand, Daniel Feldman, Doug Gausepohl, Will Leitch, Travis Miller, Brian Murphy, Arturo Pardavila, Andrew Simon, David Venn, and Zac Vierra.
