Philadelphia Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said on April 9 that top prospect Aidan Miller has started swinging a bat again as part of his rehabilitation from a recurring back issue. The announcement came before the team’s series finale against the Giants at Oracle Park.
Miller, who is ranked as the Phillies’ number one prospect and number twenty overall in Major League Baseball, had arrived at Spring Training in February with hopes of competing for a midseason promotion from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. However, he was sidelined by lower back soreness just before Grapefruit League games began and did not play during spring training.
Dombrowski described Miller’s progress as gradual. “It’s just the next step in his progress,” Dombrowski said. “It’s step by step daily. I can’t tell you what he did today, for example. But yes, he has started to swing the bat.” He added that there is no set timetable for Miller’s return to game action: “He’s been making progress, but we’re guiding him through it. Really, it’s no different than it was three weeks ago. We’re guiding him through the process. He keeps making progress. But we’re just doing everything really slowly.”
When asked about specific treatments or details regarding Miller’s condition, Dombrowski declined to provide further information due to privacy reasons but remained optimistic about his recovery: “We’re just happy with his progress,” Dombrowski said. “He’s happy with his progress. We’re with him every single day. We watch him, we treat him. He’s doing good right now… You don’t just go from swinging a bat one day like this, then play in a game today.”
The Philadelphia Phillies are a charter member of Major League Baseball’s National League and have served both Philadelphia and broader audiences since their founding according to their official website. The team has played home games at Citizens Bank Park since 2004 and achieved World Series victories in 1980 and 2008 according to their official website.
Dombrowski confirmed that expectations remain high for Miller’s eventual return: “Oh yeah,” Dombrowski said when asked if he expects Miller will play this season.
The Phillies continue to engage fans through games and community outreach while being led by executives including their chief executive officer and general manager according to their official website.
