Nathan Harriel, a homegrown defender for the Philadelphia Union, has been selected for the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) roster for September training camp and matches. The announcement was made by the club in coordination with U.S. Soccer.

This is Harriel’s third call-up to the senior national team. He previously represented the United States in the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup, where the team reached the final but lost to Mexico.

USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino will lead a group of 23 players—22 currently named, with one more addition expected—for matches against Korea Republic and Japan, both teams that have qualified for the upcoming World Cup. Players are scheduled to report to New Jersey on August 31.

The first match will be against Korea Republic on September 6 at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. ET, with coverage available on TNT and Telemundo as well as streaming options including Max, Universo, and Peacock.

The second match will take place against Japan at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio on September 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET. This fixture marks nearly 25 years since USMNT’s first visit to Columbus—a city noted for its significance in U.S. Soccer history—with broadcast details matching those of the previous game.

Seventeen players called up participated in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy system; twelve advanced through MLS academies such as Philadelphia Union and others including New York Red Bulls and FC Dallas.

Radio coverage will be provided live by Westwood One Sports with English commentary from on-site for the first time, while FĂştbol de Primera continues its Spanish-language broadcasts.

The full roster includes goalkeepers Roman Celentano (FC Cincinnati), Matt Freese (New York City FC), Jonathan Klinsmann (Cesena/ITA); defenders Max Arfsten (Columbus Crew), Noahkai Banks (FC Augsburg/GER), Tristan Blackmon (Vancouver Whitecaps/CAN), Sergiño Dest (PSV Eindhoven/NED), Alex Freeman (Orlando City), Nathan Harriel (Philadelphia Union), Tim Ream (Charlotte FC), Chris Richards (Crystal Palace/ENG); midfielders Tyler Adams (Bournemouth/ENG), Sebastian Berhalter (Vancouver Whitecaps/CAN), Luca de la Torre (San Diego FC), Diego Luna (Real Salt Lake), Jack McGlynn (Houston Dynamo), Sean Zawadzki (Columbus Crew); forwards Damion Downs (Southampton/ENG), Christian Pulisic (AC Milan/ITA) Josh Sargent (Norwich/ENG), Tim Weah (Marseille/FRA), Alex Zendejas (Club América/MEX).

“Homegrown defender Nathan Harriel has been named to the U.S. Men’s National Team roster for the upcoming September matches against World Cup-bound opponents Korea Republic and Japan,” according to Philadelphia Union and U.S. Soccer.

“This marks the third time Harriel has been called up to the senior team. Most recently, he represented the U.S. in the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup, where the team advanced to the final before falling to Mexico.”

“U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Mauricio Pochettino will bring 23 players to the training camp for the upcoming September matches against World Cup-bound opponents Korea Republic and Japan.”

“The USA will first host Korea Republic, presented by Haleon, on Sept. 6 at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, N.J.”

“USA-Japan, presented by Allstate, comes nearly 25 years after the USMNT’s first visit to Columbus, Ohio and what has become a special place in U.S. Soccer history.”

“Seventeen players on this roster took part in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, with 12 coming through MLS Academy ranks…”

“Both matches will be carried live on radio as Westwood One Sports delivers English language commentary from on-site for the first time while longtime partner FĂştbol de Primera has the Spanish language call.”
