The Philadelphia Union Summer Select teams concluded their 2025 season at the EDP Summer Sizzler tournament this past weekend. The event, which marks the end of the summer campaign for these youth squads, is known for drawing strong competition from across the region.

All 34 Union Summer Select teams participated in the tournament. Over the course of the weekend, they recorded 65 wins, 51 losses, and 7 ties. Five teams finished first in their brackets: 2013 Boys Cavan, 2013 Boys Gazdag, 2011 Boys Blake, 2009 Boys Quinn, and the 2015 Girls team. Another five teams earned second place finishes: 2017 Blake, 2014 Boys North Jersey, 2011 Boys Gazdag, 2008 Boys Bedoya, and 2013 Girls Gazdag. Three more secured third place: 2013 Girls McGlynn, 2012 Boys Cavan, and 2017 Boys McGlynn. Two finals—those involving the 2017 Cavan and the 2014 North Jersey teams—were canceled due to rain.

Patrick Kelleher, PPP Boys & Summer Select Director for Philadelphia Union said: “We closed out our summer select program on a high note with a fantastic showing at the EDP Summer Sizzler. As the final weekend of the program, it was a true celebration of hard work and growth. The bonds these players developed over the past six weeks were fantastic to witness. We’re proud of the skill, effort, and teamwork they displayed and wish all the players the very best as they return to their clubs.”

The club noted that its Summer Select program emphasizes player development through challenging competition during a six-week period each year.

With this tournament now complete for all participating age groups and divisions within Philadelphia Union’s youth structure, attention turns to preparations for its Player Pathway Program.
