Philadelphia Union Youth has announced a six-week Goalkeeper Academy aimed at young players seeking to improve their skills in goal. The program, which will be held at WSFS Bank Sportsplex, is structured to focus on different aspects of goalkeeping each week. Sessions are led by experienced coaches from the Philadelphia Union Youth staff.

The academy will cover ball handling, diving techniques, one-on-one challenges, aerial work, distribution and building play from the back, as well as footskills for modern goalkeepers. The curriculum is designed so that each session builds upon the previous one.

Dan Abel, Philadelphia Union Youth Goalkeeper Coach, said: “The Goalkeeper Academy is about more than just making saves. It’s about building confidence, mastering the fundamentals, and preparing young keepers to be leaders on the field. Every session is designed to challenge players while giving them the tools they need to succeed at the next level.”

Sessions are scheduled for Mondays—November 3rd, 10th, 17th; December 1st, 8th, and 15th—with two age groups: ages 8-11 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm and ages 12-15 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. The cost for participation is $299.

The academy targets goalkeepers of all levels who want position-specific training in a professional environment that reflects the competitive culture of the Philadelphia Union.

In addition to the goalkeeper program, Philadelphia Union Youth plans upcoming free clinics for ages 7-14 on November 6th and November 13th and a series of “3V3 Pick Up” sessions on December 4th and December 11th at WSFS Bank Sportsplex.
